Project summary

The University of Canterbury has an amazing source of edible fruits and vegetables around campus that grows and is maintained and can get picked by anyone around. Important, however, is to know where those trees and bushes grow, how those edible fruit and vegetables look when they are ripe to pick and also what the names of those are, in English and Te Reo Māori. Being able to access this information when walking around campus is incredibly useful and this led to the collaboration of this project with the aim to create a digital version of the edible campus to a currently existing paper map.

This project was extremely exciting by kicking off the collaboration between the UC sustainability office and the GRI. A bonus was to be able to provide Matthew with a remote internship opportunity, as his plans to come to New Zealand were forced to change due to the unforeseen pandemic.
